Heard about this literally years ago and it's great that people want to help and all but...people need to do more research on this before getting all hyped from a video on YouTube. Kony hasn't been seen in Uganda since 2006 and was chased into the Kongo where he's most likely trying to survive some disease that's eating him alive.
Invisible Children refused to be evaluated by the Better Business Bureau [link] to give them the information needed to see if they met the bureau's standards and they've even been called upon their "charity work" by a Yale Political Science Professor They have also been accused by Foreign Affairs of "manipulating facts for strategic purposes."
Now, am I condoning the "action" people are trying to do? No. I think people's hearts are in the right place but the problem is people are jumping blindly into this and donating money to a not-so-trustworthy organization that is probably scamming everyone. I'd rather donate to an organization that's not surrounded by so much drama and has more proof of what they are doing to help as well as be better (and updated) informed of the issue at hand.
The worst decisions are made when we are in extreme emotion (be it good or bad) because we rush to action and don't think it through. It's best to step back, analyze the situation and do a little more research about it before coming to a conclusion.
i know dat guy and i don't like him one bit :I i hope that we're able to do something about it soon if we're able to help, then we should and i know that we are very well able to 8U it's just a matter of us caring about someone other than ourselves for a change
Honestly, stopping Kony is obviously a good idea but is the cause right? Only 30% of the money they make goes to stopping him. The rest goes to filming, the guy who did the videos designer shades and such. I'll be supporting the campaign but I'm not giving them any money.
A bunch of my friends have been complaining on Facebook that they're sick of the fact that the only reason why people give a fuck is because it is just now coming to light. But so what? The more people, the better, and better to start late than never. I want to do as much as I can to help. I want to become more socially active in what happens in the world. And this is the motivator. I'm going to talk to my dad when he gets home to see if he'll help me buy this starter kit.
I have heard people complaining about the same thing. And I totally agree with you! Good luck on getting the starter kit. I'm going to try to get it myself.
should be ignored by the United States until we get our own shit cleaned up.
We have human trafficking. We have child whores. We have murderers, kidnappers, etc. We have people living covert, happy, insane lives supported by these things, sometimes at the same time. We have people as bad, if not worse, than Kony.
We should make sure that our own streets and buildings are cleaned up of scum before we use our resources to look for the exact same, albeit named, scum in other countries.
The UN has already found Kony guilty, and is already looking for him. That's enough for me at this point.
I find it pretty ignorant that you're more worried about crimes only relevant to your country.
This is exactly why I want to be involved in the Kony event.
This has nothing to do with my country, but that doesn't matter. What he's doing is wrong, and for once the wrong doings of this horrible man are being noticed on a global scale. I stand against him because he is wrong, he is evil and the people of the world should be trying to stop him.
America is much more stable than Uganda, so why not help? You only stand up for things that affect you directly?
Nothing he does affects me or my country. But what he's doing is wrong, and been going on for over 20 years. Wrong things shouldn't be allowed to continue.
Personally I think its beautiful that the whole world is coming together to stop him.

And this one makes a final and interesting read: "The Problem With Invisible Children"
